The GCC tourists are the second top spending shoppers after the Chinese from January to July this year in Turkey, according to an announcement by a Turkish economy official. According to Anadolu News Agency on Wednesday, head of the Global Blue company Selim Seyhun said the the GCC nationals recorded 24 percent of the share of all foreigners’ shopping in the country.
However, GCC visitors’ shopping dropped by 27 percent, compared to the same period in 2018, he added. Seyhun noted that Chinese tourists, who usually shop at luxury brand stores, exceeded 40 percent in spending. Meanwhile, Qatari tourists made the largest average spending with some US$ 1,190, followed by UAE nationals with US$ 1,146 and Germans with US$ 962. He added that “European tourists do not see Turkey as a shopping destination.”
