German Unity Day celebrated with reception

On the occasion of German Unity Day, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany H.E. Stefan Möbs hosted a reception on 5 November at Jumeirah Messilah Beach Hotel. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Khaled Sulaiman Al-Jarallah was the chief guest on the occasion, which was attended by members of the diplomatic corps, German community members, special invitees, and media personnel.

The German Unity Day is a national holiday commemorating the formal reunification of the German Democratic Republic (former East Germany) and the Federal Republic of Germany (former West Germany) on 3 October, 1990. The fall of the Berlin Wall nearly a year earlier on 9 November, 1989, paved the way towards this historic national unity.

Germans around the country celebrate the Day of German Unity with a ceremonial act, festival and fireworks show that is hosted by a major city  in the country each year. In addition, various celebrations are held in the federal capital Berlin, especially around the historic Brandenburg Gate. State capitals and also other cities often have additional festivities of their own.
