“Sports do not build characters, they reveal it.” A quote well said by John Wooden. In order to reveal our student’s true character, Indian Learners Own Academy (ILOA), Kuwait celebrated its First Sports Day on Thursday, 18 April 2019 at Al Nasser Sporting Club, Kuwait.

Students sporting their house uniforms colorfully filled the area. The program began with the ILOA Principal, Asha Sharma welcoming the esteemed gathering. The opening ceremony began with the March Past where colours of each house represented a stunning rainbow. The Supreme Council headed the march considering it as their privilege and honour.

After a quick inspection, the squads marched in unison as a cheer went up from the audience. The Principal Asha Sharma took the salute of the impressive March Past of the students, coupled with some stirring marching music by the band.

Principal  Asha Sharma and Vice Principals Dr. Sheeba Balraj and Mr. Vineeth hoisted the flags while everyone sang the National Anthems pompously.

The students entered into the spirit of the occasion in a grand way with the lighting of the Olympic torch and the oath being administered by the Sports Captain Moinudeen. The students of classes 3 and 4 demonstrated freehand exercise mesmerizing the audience with their energetic performances. The medley of athletic drill display added colour and charm to the day. The array of artistic and athletic skills captivated the hearts of the spectators.

Once the races began, there was cheering and tons of encouragement for the young athletes. Students of classes 3 to 12 competed in events including race, sprints, relays, long jump and high jump. After that, yogasanas were carried out by class 7, then aerobics was performed by classes 5 and 6 for the song ‘Jai ho’.

In the U19 boys category, the sports captain Moinudeen won  the 100m, shot put, 4X 100 relay and in the U 17 boys category, Johan won for javelin, shotput, 4×100 relay. At the end of the day, students departed with a clear smile on their faces. It was a day filled with sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and memories to cherish.

The day culminated with a few remarkable achievements that enhanced the glory of the sport’s history of Indian Learners Own Academy. The day ended with the awarding of medals and certificates to all the winners. At the end of the day, all realized that ‘Winning is not everything but making the effort to win is.’
