Important Education Ministry files abandoned in old building

Important files and documents, some as recent as 2015 and 2016, containing confidential information about employees and officials at the Ministry of Education, are at risk of being lost or damaged as they are lying unprotected in an old building.

The documents and files were left behind in the old Education Ministry building when the ministry relocated to a new building almost a year ago. This neglect and disregard for protecting confidential documents highlight earlier warnings made by State Audit Bureau (SAB), which said the ministry was not following instructions and standards in storing confidential documents in a safe place.

The ministry files are reportedly lying on open shelves and on the floor, gathering dust in the old headquarters. For its part, the ministry claimed that the documents were not moved to the new building as there is no space for all the files and so some were left behind in the old building.
