Visiting traffic departments in any of the governorates is not for the faint of heart, especially if you are an expatriate. However, the Jahra Traffic Department seems to be an exception, and can be considered a model of efficiency, that is unless you end up having to pay for any traffic violations.

Visitors to the Jahra General Traffic Department looking to complete any traffic related transaction, will be surprised at the ease and speed with which each process is accomplished. Moreover, they will also find no long winding queues to process any transaction.

Despite the traffic department being housed in an old prefabricated structure that was built nearly 40 years ago, and the department is still awaiting the opening of a new administrative building, every transaction is processed with the utmost ease.

More than 100 transactions are accepted at one time and completed within a record time of 15 minutes.Traffic department personnel manage every transaction professionally, smoothly and efficiently.

But just when you are admiring the efficacy of the staff and wishing that traffic in Kuwait would also flow just as smoothly, along comes a speed bump in the form of fines for traffic violations.

A long winding queue awaits anyone unlucky enough to have to pay for a traffic infraction and waiting in excess of an hour to have your transaction processed is the norm, as there are only a handful of employees to handle the more than 500 fines collected each day.
