Kuwait continues to play a ‘magnificent’ role in empowering women in all fields, Minister of Statefor Economic Affairs Mariam Al-Aqeel affirmed Monday. Al-Aqeel made her remarks to KUNA on the sidelines of the 63rd session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW63) at the UN headquarters. The Kuwaiti participation at CSW63 reiterate the country’s keenness to support and empower women at all levels, and desire to activate Goal Five of sustainable development targets for 2030, she said.

Starting from 11 until 15 March, the delegation will take part in several activities related to empowering women in public and state sectors, in addition to highlighting Kuwaiti women’s active role and contributions to their society during pre and post-oil discovery, added Al-Aqeel.”We cannot overlook Kuwait’s role in allowing women to enter the public prosecution field,” she said, hoping they advance to judiciary level and become judges in next few years. The Kuwaiti delegation will hold a special event on women empowerment, on the sidelines of CSW63, as a confirmation of the country’s support, among other Arab nations, of women and keenness to activate sustainable development’s Goal Five, she noted.

Some of Goal Five’s main objectives include ending all forms of discrimination against all women and girls everywhere, and eliminating all forms of violence against all women and girls in public and private spheres, including trafficking and sexual exploitation, said the Kuwaiti minister.

It also aims to ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision-making in political, economic and public life, and adopt sound policies and enforceable legislation for the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls at all levels, she added.”I made sure to meet with a group of Kuwaiti youngsters who are currently working for various UN-affiliated bodies and organizations to acknowledge most prominent challenges facing them,” Al-Aqeel said, hoping their experiences contribute to enhancing their working skills.

She also lauded His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s support of such activities, efforts, and initiatives that tend to achieve sustainable development goals and affirm Kuwait’s keenness and role to implement all UN-related recommendations.
