Minister of Social Affairs and Labor Dr. Hind AlSabeeh announced Wednesday Kuwait readiness to host the first session of Arab contest “To My Orphan Brother” in 2020.
This came during a speech delivered by the Minister during the opening session of the 38th meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers for Social Affairs. She assured the completion of the contest’s framework, which was suggested by the State of Kuwait during the Council’s 37th meeting, indicating that it was expected to be approved shortly.
In a statement for KUNA, the minister confirmed Kuwait keenness on the “human element” as one of the foundations of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 2030, initiated by the United Nations and ratified by Arab countries back in 2015. “Orphans are part of this plan, and Kuwait has spared no efforts in merging these orphans with society by encouraging government and private sectors to embrace them into the civil society,” she said.
The competition will focus initially on orphans who succeeded in the fields of culture, education and sports. It calls on civil society institutions to take care of such initiatives to promote the educational and creative development of orphans, which will benefit societies.
The minister noted that Kuwait, as the initiator of the competition, would host its first session in 2020, expressing the hope that this step will enhance the work of the Council in this field.
On other hand, Dr. AlSabeeh said a memorandum of cooperation in the social field will be signed between Kuwait and Egypt, as she hope to sign more of these agreements with other Arab countries to activate the joint Arab action, which will in turn reflect on the joint social development Arab work. She also announced launching of comprehensive Guide to Disability Terminology issued by the Councils executive office.
In her Speech, She stressed the importance of participation in all of the Council activities as well as all international and global events in this regards, to emphasize the Arab presence in these events. As for the outcomes of the Council’s 37th meetings, she praised the social sector and the technical secretariat of the council on their efforts in issuing decisions and initiatives related to elderly people and persons with disabilities in line with the Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
In this regard, she referred to a media campaign focusing on rights of persons with disabilities, begins on December 19 and lasts for one year. In conclusion, Minister AlSabeeh expressed her thanks to the president of the current 38th meetings, Egyptian Social Affairs Minister Gada Wali, and Assistant Secretary General and Head of the Social Affairs Department at the Arab League Ambassador Dr. Haifa AbuGhazaleh.
