According to the latest statistics from the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB), salaries in Kuwait show a large gender disparity, with men earning 41 percent more than women in the public sector and more than 63 percent in the private sector.

According to statistics, the average monthly salary of male citizens in government sector was KD1,807 per month in the first quarter of 2019; compared to KD1,279 for female citizens. In the private sector the disparity was even greater, with Kuwaiti men receiving KD1,417 while their women counterparts received KD866. Based on these figures, it is evident that on average a woman receives KD540 per month less than their male counterparts.

While the government has been encouraging nationals to work in the private sector, the CSB figures show why the public sector still continues to lure citizens. The data reveals that Kuwaiti men employed in the public sector earn on average KD1,497 while those working in the private sector make on average only KD1,138 per month.
