A Kuwaiti lawyer and four foreigners were sentenced to life imprisonment by the Criminal Court for their involvement in the kidnapping of another lawyer.

The case against the defendants involved disguising as security personnel to kidnap and assault the victim, as well as threatening and infringing on his freedom, seizing his mobile, handcuffing and placing him under surveillance.

While one defendant, the Kuwaiti lawyer, denied the accusations, the other four admitted to the crime and gave a detailed description of all that transpired. They blamed the Kuwaiti lawyer for ordering them to perpetrate the crime and said they were asked to monitor the victim and eventually kidnap him in return for financial reward.

Sentencing the five, the Court headed by Counselor Muhammad Al-Sanei, also ordered them to pay KD10,000 in temporary compensation to plaintiff for the physical and emotional pain he suffered as a result of the incident.

Following the verdict, the plaintiff said he would sue the five kidnappers for KD1 million in compensation.
