Lufthansa cancels 1,300 flights due to strike

Lufthansa announced Thursday canceling around 1,300 flights due to a planned 48-hour strike by Cabin crew union UFO. The action will affect about 180,000 passengers, and will include German international airports, most notably Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich and Dusseldorf.

UFO insisted on carrying out the strike in a dispute over pay and conditions of about 21,000 employees. The union has threatened to extend the strike to more airports if Lufthansa fails to meet demands. Lufthansa failed on Tuesday to get a court order from two courts in Frankfurt and Hesse forcing the union to cancel the strike.
