Director General of Kuwait Municipality Ahmad Al-Manfouhi took a decision Monday to decrease commercial activities allowed in the country as part of the measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Speaking to the press during inspections of vehicle repair shops in Shuwaikh and Sharq areas, Al-Manfouhi indicated that activities allowed during the current circumstances were decreased to only 9 from the prevailing 17 without specifying the 9 new exemptions
Government entities are battling the spread of the coronavirus; therefore, the Municipality is working to reinforce the Kuwaiti authorities decisions in this regard, he affirmed.

Al-Manfouhi said that 95 percent of car repair shops were abiding by the cabinet’s decision to cease operations during these trying times, adding that shops defying closure will be fined according to the law.

The earlier deicsion by Kuwait Municipality to exempt 17 services has now been reduced to only nine and operation hours will remain between 5 am to 4 pm.

Below is the old list of services who were exempted from the closure decision:

1- Food and beverage shops, centers, and markets.
2- Laundry, Washing and Ironing.
3- Maintenance and Repair Shops.
4- Vehicle maintenance and repair and spare parts of all kinds.
5- Currency Exchange Shops.
6- Pharmacies.
7- Restaurants of all types.
8- Optical Shops.
9- Administrative Offices.
10- Gas Branches.
11- Hardware Stores in Cooperative Societies.
12- Cattle Feed Shops.

The following industrial and service centers licensed by the Public Authority of Industry related to the productions of the following:

Excluded from the closure decision:
1- Food
2- Petrochemicals
3- Gases
4- Plastic
5- Cartons and Paper Products
