Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte has announced a lockdown in the Netherlands in an effort to stop the surge of the Omicron coronavirus variant “I stand here tonight in a sombre mood. And a lot of people watching will feel that way too,” Rutte told a news conference at The Hague Saturday evening. “To sum it up in one sentence, the Netherlands will go back into lockdown from tomorrow,” he noted. Non-essential shops, schools, restaurants and other public venues will be closed until at least mid-January, he said.The new restrictions were announced following a meeting between the government and the Outbreak Management Team.
