The European Union managed to bring home over half a million of its citizens who were affected by coronavirus travel restrictions across the world.

At the beginning of the outbreak, around 600,000 EU citizens declared themselves stranded outside the EU, most of them in the Asia-Pacific region and the Americas, the European Commission said in a press release Friday.

This concerns EU short-term travelers outside the EU. Currently, there are still around 98,900 EU citizens stranded abroad and efforts are ongoing to bring them home in the coming days, it noted.
