The Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) announced procedures for employers to deal with domestic workers if she or he absconds to an unknown destination, Al Anba daily reported.

The authority clarified that first, the sponsor registers a complaint against the absconding domestic worker in one of the service centers of the Ministry of Interior. Then going to the Department of Regulating the Recruitment of Domestic Workers of the Authority to register a complaint to ensure the sponsor does not bear the costs of the travel ticket if the worker is caught. In addition, the sponsor is entitled to compensation from the offices if the domestic worker has not completed the contract period.

PAM reiterated that if the worker has not completed the first six months period from the date of recruitment, the office will be forced to reimburse the employer with the full amount paid for the recruitment, and undertake the cost for the return travel ticket for the worker.

However, if the domestic worker absconds and his or her contract period has ended, the complaint is transferred to the judiciary where a ruling will be passed where the sponsor does not have to front the costs of the travel ticket and determine compensation.
