The parliamentary excellence award of the Arab Interparliamentary Union (AIPU) boosts efforts in developing the work of General Secretariats of Arab parliaments.

The remarks were made to KUNA by Kuwait’s National Assembly Secretary General and head of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments (ASGP) Allam AlKandari on Sunday, on the sidelines of the meeting of the award’s special committee in Beirut.

The meeting aims to discuss amendments to the committee’s bylaw, presented by several Arab parliaments including Kuwaiti one. The meeting will continue on Monday to approve recommendations that will be presented to the Executive Committee and later to the AIPU, he said.

The meeting includes Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Algeria, Somalia and Arab parliamentary experts. The award aims to honor outstanding current and former Arab heads of parliaments, secretary generals and researchers in the field of developing methods to enhance the legislative and monitoring role of Arab parliaments.
