Any attempt to abrogate Article 370 and Article 35A of the Constitution or carry out delimitation of constituencies or trifurcating the state would be opposed by all political parties in the state, said Farooq Abdullah, president of the National Conference (NC).
He made the statement following a meeting with Mehbooba Mufti of the Peoples democratic Party, Omar Abdullah of (NC), Taj Mohiuddin (Congress), Sajad Lone and Imran Ansari of the Peoples Conference, Shah Faesal of J&K Peoples Movement, and M Y Tarigami of the Communist Party of India (CPI-M).
The meeting was held as Kashmir remained on edge on Sunday with authorities stepping up security deployment at vital installations and sensitive areas amid heightened terror threat and flare up of hostilities with Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC).
Reading out a resolution adopted at the meeting, Farooq Abdullah said the parties have decided to send delegations to meet the president, the prime minister and leaders of various political parties to apprise them about the consequences of the abrogation of Articles 35A and 370, and unconstitutional delimitation or trifurcation of the state, as it would be an aggression against the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
The parties attending the meeting also appealed to India and Pakistan not to take any steps that would escalate tension in the region. He also appealed to the people of the state to maintain peace.
