The Ghanaian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E. Alhaji Ahmed Rufai Yahaya Iddi hosted a reception to celebrate his country’s 62nd Independence Day at the Crowne Plaza Hotel on 7 March. Kuwait’s Minister of Oil, Electricity and Water Dr. Khaled Al-Fadhel was the chief guest on the occasion.
Expressing his thanks to the Kuwait government, officials and authorities for their assistance in helping establish the Ghanian embassy in Kuwait, Ambassador Iddi said, “On the same day, the foreign ministers of both countries signed a memorandum of understanding that aimed to create a framework for mutually beneficial co-operation in the various fields of trade, business, investment and allied pursuits.”
He added, “We are also looking forward to signing a number of agreements between our two countries such as a Bilateral Labor Agreement to manage migration and labor movements between Ghana and Kuwait.”
Calling for Kuwaiti investments in his country, the ambassador said, “We have expanded infrastructure in a number of regions in Ghana to facilitate investment opportunities to harness the rich and resources present in these regions and to provide food security and jobs for our people.”
“We have started an ambitious industrialization venture to establish one factory in each of the over 200 Districts in Ghana in order to boost industrialization and jobs, and promote investment co-operation with partner countries like Kuwait. These flagship programs among others are geared towards the socioeconomic transformation of the country through an all-inclusive industrialization and economic development program,” he added.
While highlighting the generous assistance from the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development in the form of infrastructure loans and other social development ventures, Ambassador Iddi also revealed that to further strengthen relations between Ghana and Kuwait preparations were underway to facilitate a visit to Kuwait by the President of Ghana.
For his part, pointing to the investment potential of oil industry in Ghana, Minister Al-Fadhel said, “We are interested in increasing Kuwaiti investments in oil to Ghana as it is one of the successful economies in Africa, and offers avenues for cooperation.” He went on to express hope that trade exchanges between the two countries will be strengthened.
He also praised the relations between Kuwait and Ghana as friendly and good.
