In a bid to develop its capacity to handle water shortages and overcome emergencies arising from stoppage of water supply, the Ministry of Electricity and Water (MEW) has recently floated a public tender for the purchase, supply and installation of 30 mobile reverse osmosis units with a daily filtration capacity of 100,000 imperial gallons.

The mobile units, costing over KD5 million, will be used to desalinate water with low salinity in various locations around the country, said the MEW. The ministry will reportedly use these units in residential areas, at the National Guard camps, and wherever it is needed to provide emergency services during extended disruptions to the power supply.
