A series of grilling motions filed against ministers as of late does not indicate that Kuwait’s parliament would be dissolved, said top lawmaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim, describing such parliamentary procedures as a “constitutional right.” Only His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has the authority to dissolve parliament, Al-Ghanim told reporters, pointing out that all lawmakers have an inalienable right to question ministers and officials in parliament.

“This isn’t the first time that rumors have swirled about parliament being possibly dissolved,” added Speaker Al-Ghanim, saying such speculation has become the norm rather than the exception nowadays. He termed those rumors as “broken record.” His remarks came after being received by His Highness the Amir, along with members of the parliamentary caucus, all of whom fresh off a global parliament meet in the Serbian capital Belgrade. Amid the talks, His Highness the Amir highlighted the need to be aware of current developments in the region, which call for a greater sense of national unity in the face of these growing challenges, Al-Ghanim noted.
