The much awaited mega sports event & carnival – Onathanima 2019 – organized by Thanima showcased a variety of programs at the ICSK grounds, Abbassiya renamed as ‘Al-Homaizi Baluchandran Nagar’.  The cultural procession welcoming the guests of honors had the perfect ambiance and color with a wide variety of traditional art forms depicting the true spirit and unison of Kerala’s cultural enigma.

The public meeting was presided over by Jins Mathew (General Conv.) in which HE K. Jeeva Sagar (Indian Ambassador to Kuwait) was the esteemed chief guest.  The event was blessed with the presence of a galaxy of dignitaries with Colonel Ibrahim Abdthul Razak Al Daei (Commander of Jeleeb Shuyoukh Police) as Guest of honor.

Twenty two students, one from each Indian School, received the coveted ‘Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Pearl of the School award’, for their excellence in academics, extracurricular activities and social commitments from Indian Ambassador H.E. K. Jeeva Sagar and Col. Ibrahim Abthul Razak. The nominees were honored and applauded with laurels of victory by the crowd.   ‘Bini Antony Excellence award’  (a gold medal & certificate) for the best all-rounder from Class VII of United Indian School was given away to Ms. Angel Maria Joy.  The segment was ably coordinated by Darshan Dileep, Hima Jacob, Josh Svyo & Annu Thomas.

Col. Ibrahim Abthul Razak Al-Daei, was honored with  a ‘Social Excellence Award’, for his support and guidance to the Indian community in Kuwait.   An updated ‘Directory of Indian Associations’ in Kuwait was also released.

Musical symphony sessions at each break by ‘Kuwait Melodies’ was a soother to the flamboyant crowd.  The flash mob presented by Kuwait Blood Donors Group was a real surprise with a message, enjoyed by all.  In remembrance of Mahatmaji’s 150th birth anniversary,  a 150 strong choir of students, lead by Sindhu Ramesh and Sruthi Sreejith had rendered patriotic songs.

The nail biting Tug O’ War competition lasted for over 12 hours, had seen 19 professionally trained teams vying for the Gold Cup and cash prizes.  Team ‘Rezova Friends of Rajeesh-A’ have been declared as the champions,  claiming Sancelia Ever rolling Gold cup and KD. 351/-  ‘Bosco KKB-C and Matrix Gym Friends of Rajeesh-B’ were  the 1st and 2nd runners-up making themselves eligible for ‘Blueline Ever rolling trophy & KD. 251/-  and Jiju memorial rolling trophy and KD. 151/- cash prize respectively.

All the teams played in the quarter finals of the match were given special cash prizes and trophies, besides trophies for participation to all the participating teams.  Individual medals and certificates were also given to all the members of the winning teams.

Representing various entities Dr. T.A. Ramesh (CEO, Oncost),  Mathews Varghese (Country Head, BEC), Anil Adoor (Chief Coordinating Editor, Asianet), Musthafa Kari (Director, Frontline Logistics), Sivi Paul (MD, Boubiyan Gases),  K.O. Mathew (MD, Indian Central School), Shibu Paul (Director, Boubiyan Gasses),  Sivdasan (Director, Bosco Group), Hamza Payyannoor (CEO, Metro Medical Care),  K.S. Varghese (MD, Gulf Advanced Medicals), Ajithkumar (Principal, UIS), Biju Pappachan (Farwaniya Governorate), attended the function along with Thanima officials and other dignitaries.

Shaiju Pallipuram and Varsha Jacob coordinated the programs with the support of Pennthanima, Kuttithanima  & Hardcore members.    Babuji Bathery (Thanima Conv.) delivered the welcome speech and Jinu K. Abraham  (Jt. Gen. Conv.) proposed the vote of thanks.
