Three drivers per family is one too many

Each Kuwaiti family is allowed to hire only two drivers, says a new circular sent to the residency affairs department in all governorates.

Hiring of a third driver would be considered only in exceptional circumstances and that too with a no-objection-certificate provided either by the Assistant Undersecretary of Residence Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major-General Talal Ma’arafi or from the Director-General of General Department of Residence Affairs Brigadier AbdulQader Shaba’an.

The new instructions are apparently aimed at strengthening the government’s attempts to rectify the skewed demographic imbalance between citizens and foreigners in the country, reduce the number of domestic staff in each household and ease traffic congestion on roads.
