British Academy of Sport (BAS) and the Embassy of Serbia organized the 7th Men’s International Volleyball Tournament ‘Independence Cup’ on 14 February at the British School of Kuwait (BSK) Campus. Most of the Ambassadors of the participating embassies attended the event, as well as members of these countries communities came to support their teams.

This year saw the participation of 12 teams representing their embassies and countries: Afghanistan, Czech Republic, Ghana, Great Britain, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Kuwait, Philippines, Romania, Russia and Tunisia.

During the opening ceremony, the teams paraded past the audience and there was a great performance from BSK Scouts on the occasion of Kuwait’s National and Liberation Days.

The volleyball tournament had very strong teams competing in high-octave matches. The semifinals were played by Tunisia against India and Romania against the Philippines. The winners of the Independence Cup are for the fourth time the Tunisia team after winning three important matches.

Madame Vera Al Mutawa MBE, the Serbian Ambassador to Kuwait H.E Vladimir Al Khout and the Director of British Academy of Sport Lucian Anisia handed over the medals and gifts to the participants and  the Independence Cup 2020 trophy to the Tunisian Team winners.

The event was sponsored by Ecco,Royale Hayat, 4FEST, Jumeirah Mesilah Beach Hotel, Qatar Airways, FCM Travel, Decathlon and the media partner Times Kuwait.
